9 December 2016 (Hong Kong) – As part of its mission to promote film culture in Hong Kong, and to extend its audience development strategy beyond the urban areas, the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) in collaboration with CreateHK, presents a pilot film programme in the newly renovated North District Town Hall Auditorium in Sheung Shui. The lack of cinemas in North District makes it a suitable area for making cinema accessible to the local population.
This programme initiative, the Cine-Rama@North District Town Hall (Cine-Rama) opened with a special screening of the new film Show Me Your Love with attendance by director Ryon LEE and cast members Ivana WONG, Raymond WONG, Michelle WAI, Ben CHEUNG and Begonia LAM.
Official guests at the opening ceremony included Mr. Gregory SO, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Ms. Susie HO, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr. MA Fung-kwok, Chairman of Film Development Council, Ms. Michelle LI, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Ms. Elaine YEUNG, Assistant Director (Performing Art) of Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Mr. YAU Kin-chung, District Officer (North), Mr. SO Sai-chi, Chairman of North District Council, Mr. Angus CHAN, Director of Entertaining Power Co., Ltd, Ms. Mani MAN, Representative of MM2 Studios Hong Kong Ltd, Dr. Wilfred WONG, Chairman of HKIFFS, Mr. Roger GARCIA, Executive Director of HKIFFS, and Mr. LI Cheuk-to, Artistic Director of HKIFFS.
“The Auditorium of the North District Town Hall, which was previously used mainly for performing arts such as plays and Cantonese Operas. It has now been re-provisioned to include film screening facilities. We hope that members of the North District community will welcome this addition to their cultural services. We thank the North District Town Hall and Leisure and Cultural Services Department for their help in making this possible.” Mr. Gregory SO remarked.
The Chairman of HKIFFS, Dr. Wilfred WONG added, “We thank CreateHK for supporting the Cine-Rama initiative. We would also like to thank the director and cast of Show Me You Love for attending tonight’s opening ceremony. Besides tonight’s opening film, we have a great programme of eight films lined up including Hong Kong classics A Better Tomorrow and An Autumn’s Tale, as well as Oscar-winning animated features The Lion King and Toy Story. We are also grateful to the North District Council and District Office for their support.”
The first edition of Cine-Rama runs from today until 17 February 2017, all screenings are free for the public. Please refer to the programme booklet and the official website cinerama.hkiff.org.hk for details.
